A Uniform Penny Post was established in 1840. The original Village Post Office/Shop was located at 26 Main Street (The Old Post Office) from about 1890.  Prior to that, it is likely to have been a shop with a bakery adjacent.  It is recorded that in 1846 as owned by Jonathan Branson, a grocer and druggist.  The 1915 Post Office Guide confirms the Post Office as open but there was ‘No Sunday delivery’. The Post Office relocated to a room, rented by the Clarke Family at 2 Church Lane then moved in the late 1960’s to a purpose built shop/home at 53 Main Street until the late 1980’s. The final move was to the Bungalow at the corner of Meadow Lane and Main Street from 1989-1992 when the Clarke Family ceased their long association with the business and Osgathorpe lost another village resource.
