Stordon Grange
Granges developed from the 12th Century and were often originally farmed by monastic orders. The buildings were similar to manor houses and sometimes moated, as was this site. It is likely that this site may have been connected to the Augistinian Priory at Grace Dieu which is closest to this site. It may also have been known originally as Stoughton Grange. There appears to be a record of the Grange being leased in1493 to John Zouch. During the 1800's the Boultbee's lived here and it is thought to have been occupied by 4 consecutive generations of the family. In the autumn of 1963 Loughborough & District Archaeological Society recorded this as ‘the county’s finest monastic moated grange that still retained water’ and was a ‘county treasure’. The buildings were demolished by 1965.
